All White on the Night

This Spring/Summer white is most definitely the new black!

The SS10 catwalks were rife with top to toe whites, as many designers embraced the clean and polished look.

Costume Nation

There were edgy and masculine whites at Costume National, where loose fitting trousers were teemed with boxy jackets and toughened up with statement black boots.

Salvatore Ferragamo

At Salvatore Ferragamo it was a more tailored look, whites were broken up with black accessories and guys clutched over-sized man bags to complete the look.

Givenchy

The most extreme white on white was seen at Givenchy where white suits matched with white shirts and shoes ruled.

Now as you all sit there wondering how you are going to work this trend without resembling Casper the friendly ghost or someone about to be baptized... I hear your cries and I'm going to help you.

This is not the easiest look to carry off, but if you stick to the rules you too can work your inner 'Officer and a Gentleman.'

1. DO embrace the look with gusto. The clue is in the title ALL white.... There is nothing wrong with adding a bit of black or silver here and there to break up the dazzle, but avoid adding bright colour flashes; they only detract from the look and will make you look like a terrible children's TV presenter.

2. DO try detailing. This could be a pair of shoes with detailed stitching or a top with an irregular neckline. By experimenting with one key piece you will keep the look interesting and avoid looking too dull. Warning I said detailing not embellishment, you don't want to look like Elvis!

3. DON'T mix-up your whites. Choose a shade and run with it. The best type is a crisp, 'just washed' white, so avoid any hints of beige or yellow.

4. DON'T over complicate. White is a very simple colour and therefore works best with the simplest of styles. Don't add to many layers 3/4 pieces max, or risk looking like slightly ghostly.

5. DON'T forget you're wearing white. So when that Merlot-fueled picnic looks ever-so tempting, or your friend asks you to go for a curry, just remember what you have on.
