Decadence of Burlesque at the Paper Night Club

...Featuring Gwendoline Lamour

If you've never had your own personal encounter with a Burlesque Show, I'd have to wonder where the heck you've been? The Burlesque craze is sweeping the capital and after my night of glamour at the exclusive Paper Club on Regent Street in London, featuring Gwendoline Lamour, there'll be no turning back.

Gwendoline is a bright star. She's been called 'Britain's answer to Dita Von Tesse' by This Morning's Fern Britton and has performed for everyone who is anyone and has graced the pages of top magazines like Esquire, Elle and Harpers & Queen - I felt privileged to be invited to watch her live.

The night begun with a few cocktails to warm the senses, after we'd had our fill we were led to the VIP section where we were entertained by the dangerously tight corseted beauties, Miss Em and her Babettes. The lights dimmed and on came two burlesque dancers following on from the corset tradition and carrying two huge powder puffs filled with glitter. They took their place on the podiums and out came Ms Lamour in her Dangerous Liason's finest threads and as the ladies began to pick their partners' jaws up from the floor, Miss Lamour began her act.

The great thing about burlesque is that it appeals to a range of types one the complete opposite end of the spectrum than that of your regular old local strip joint, Stringfellows and the Spearmint Rhino couldn't touch this with a bargepole. Burlesque says class and sophistication; even your parents would enjoy it.

After three short performances by Gwendoline Lamour, I collected my goodie bag (wouldn't you like to know what was inside?) and left with a big smile on my face as I pondered the idea of signing myself up for a few of Lamour's Burlesque classes... Hmmm, very interesting indeed.
