Diet on the Dancefloor

CFM Speaks to Jaiden Michael

The genre of reality TV has exploded in recent years and just when you thought the television schedules had reached saturation point with these types of shows, Living TV has launched 'Diet On The Dance Floor'. The show is a love child of 'The Biggest Loser' and 'Strictly Come Dancing'.

While this may sound like one for the ladies, we all have our secret guilty pleasures when it comes to television viewing and perhaps 'Diet On The Dance Floor' will become one of yours.

In the show regular Joes and Joettes are paired up with professional dancers; they have a week to master a dance routine and are judged at the end of the week on both their dancing prowess and fitness/diet improvement.

Crumbs for Men had the opportunity to speak to one of the show's contestants Jaiden Micheal.

25 year old Jaiden is a cheeky scouser who dreams of becoming the UK's answer to Perez Hilton; "I am celebrity obsessed, I read magazines like Hello and have celebrity friends; I even have my own online blog. I guess I'm similar to Perez, just better looking. Jodi Marsh once called me a fat, horrendous waste of space...maybe I turned her down in a nightclub once - she's been holding a grudge since then."

After applying and being rejected for Big Brother, Jaiden saw an advert for this new show and was successfully cast. "I felt I didn't look as good as I could and the show would give me an opportunity to lose weight and be on TV, plus I'm learning a new skill." He certainly is; the dances are [technical and energetic, added to this it takes some confidence to wear some of the costumes chosen for the contestants by GMTV stylist, Nick Ede.

Jaiden's not a total stranger to the camera, having been in music videos and teen-soap opera, 'Hollyoaks'; "I was a bit stiff in front of the camera at first but you soon forget about it (the camera), 'Diet on the Dance Floor' has a good working environment but there has already been a bit of bitching going on already."

Although the bitching makes for good TV, there is a message of healthy eating and exercise behind the show, in the first week Jaiden managed to shift a whopping 13lbs. "As well as the dance practise I've been weight training and swimming, I've cut out the processed food too. I adore chocolate but I haven't been tempted once." Diet on the Dancefloor airs Wednesday s at 9pm on LIVING.
