"When the present is juxtaposed with the past, the atmosphere becomes more intimate and convivial; the space becomes playful and filled with joy."
The doors to the Hotel Ambassador first opened to the public in 1927 and since then the hotel has become one of the most prestigious and well known places to stay in Paris. Kings and various heads of States have all rested their knowledgeable heads on the Hotel Ambassador's comfy pillows, so it only seemed fitting that I make it the first stop on my rendezvous with the city of romance and fashion.
The Hotel Ambassador is a large hotel which has 294 rooms. I was given one of the 29 Executive rooms as my home away from home, and I must say that it lived up to all of my expectations; everything was perfect, from the size of the room, the floor to ceiling windows over looking the famous Boulevard Haussmann, to the white and chrome bathroom with marble counter tops and toiletries provided by Annick Goutal. Everything screamed luxury, which made it all the more difficult to hand back my room key in the morning.
The Hotel Ambassador sits right in the heart of the Opera Quarter of Paris; walking distance from the world famous Le Printemps and Les Galeries Lafeyette; known for its great shopping and the Opera Garnier; know for its great performances. The closest Metro station is less than 2 minutes away which makes it very easy to maneuver around the city. However, if the metro is not for you, the concierge is more than willing to order you a cab.
I had to pay a visit to the hotel bar, (my champagne vouchers courtesy of Mr Le Ru, the hotel manager tucked neatly inside my back pocket) better known as The Lindbergh Bar, named after Charles Lindbergh, for whom the Hotel Ambassador hosted the official reception party in honor of his historic transatlantic flight from London to Paris in 1927. The Lindbergh has a great atmosphere, perfect for after work drinks or for taking in a few cocktails after an afternoon of sightseeing. The lighting in the bar is changeable along with the seasons; in the summer months the lighting is a honey yellow, then in the winter it changes to a rich plum.
The use of colour at the Hotel Ambassador is very creative, from the lobby's mahogany wood amidst splashes of colour to the meeting rooms and the hotel restaurant - 16 Haussmann, that seats up to 106 guests, the building shows heavy influence from the arts and the cubist movement, which is fitting since Boulevard Haussmann was known as the 'Republic of Arts and Letters'.
Room rates at the Hotel Ambassador vary from 500 Euros for Superior Single / Double rooms and the suites will set you back 1,100 Euros (tax and service included). If considering a stay at the Ambassador (and why wouldn't you?), I would advise you to check their website for a list of special offer packages. Since my birthday is not too far a way, in regards to another visit to Hotel Ambassador, I'd have to say "oui merci, por moi?"... and grab the room keys without hesitation.
