Joey Negro and The Sunburst Band are set to release their third album, 'Moving with the Shakers' on the 12th May; a jam packed array of soul, disco, funk, jazz, electro beats and amazing vocals.
With a number of collaborations, including soul legend Leroy Burgess, Diane Charlemagne and Chaka Khan's sister Taka Boom, Joey Negro and The Sunburst Band bring to us an album that from the moment you turn on the CD until the time you turn it off, will take you on a journey of the mind, body and soul.
The CD opens with 'Journey', a blend of live strings and soft vocals; this track sets the scene for the trip that we are taken on through the entire 17 track CD. 'Moving with the Shakers' depicts the journey of life, reflected in the titles of some of the tracks such as; 'Rough Times', 'Our Lives Are Shaped', 'Surviving', 'We Can Live Forever' and 'Days Gone By'.
'Our Lives Are Shaped' (track 3) is a track which leans towards 2 step soul, and the days of old school sound systems. The lyrics on this track say that we are "...Shaped by who we love" and that the people we love "...make us who we are".
'Fashion' (track 5) is a reworking of the original David Bowie track. 'Fashion' effortlessly blends funk, rock and jazz to create a head nodding dance floor track, whilst 'Sitting On Top Of The World' (track 6) is reminiscent of the uplifting disco days of Earth, Wind and Fire.
'Days Gone By' (track 10) discusses feelings and the innocence which comes with youth. The first verse starts with "Remember when we were kids..." and continues to look back nostalgically on the "Days Gone By". The stomping instrumental and uplifting soulful vocals, adds a burst of energy and youthfulness to the track.
The CD closes with 'We Can Live Forever', the soft vocals over a mellow instrumental creates an uplifting but calm atmospheric track, as the lyrics inspire us to believe that although the CD may be coming to an end, the journey of life is not over, "We Can Live Forever".
With this album, Joey Negro and The Sunburst Band clearly deliver something for the lovers of old school disco and funk, whilst adding their own twists and turns which creates something that the modern day listener can also thoroughly enjoy.
