Coming from a Caribbean and Canadian background, Melanie Fiona gives us a very diverse album with her debut offering entitled 'The Bridge', named 'The Bridge' because according to Melanie Fiona; "It crosses the barriers between ethnicities, genres, age groups, and genders. It can't be defined as just one thing. It's got a soul that's something old, yet something new." Some of you may know her from supporting Kanye West on the European leg of his Glow in the Dark tour, and if you don't know her, get to know.
She has a distinctive voice, soulful and strong, drawing inspiration from artists like Sade and Bob Marley to patsy Kline. This diversity is echoed in her album which blends different genres with Motown type tracks like 'Please Don't Go (Cry baby)', the reggae infused 'Sad Songs' and 'Bang Bang', where she flips the script and has us doing the twist with the best of them.
'Give it to me right' is the new single from Melanie Fiona, it features a sample of the classic Zombies rock track, 'Time of the Season', in where Melanie Fiona empowers women, saying exactly what she means and wants, no shrinking violets here.
Melanie Fiona is a girl who is hard to define and her album doesn't disappoint; it's always a pleasure to find an artist who isn't afraid to push the boundaries.
