Q-Tip is a man of multi facets. He's been in the game since 1988 and has tried his hand (successfully, I might add) to rapping, acting and producing. True old school hip hoppers will know him very well from his days as front man for the award winning rap group A Tribe Called Quest.
Born Jonathon Davies, 1970 in Harlem, New York, he got the name Q-Tip name from his ability to "get into one's ears" and has been known as one of the more conscious rappers concerned with lyrical content rather than the commercial factors that dominate a lot of the music of today.
Q-Tip has been absent from centre stage for too long, now he returns with his third solo album entitled "The Renaissance", to be released on Universal Records on the 4th November - which coincides with the US presidential elections (he has a track which samples one of Obama's speeches for the hook).
The first single from the album is "Gettin' Up" and is exactly what hip-hop has been missing (with the exception of a few artists like Lupe Fiasco and Common), "Gettin' Up" takes you back to the carefree early 90's when hip hop was hip hop. A catchy hook with expert delivery is what Q-Tip is serving up; get it while it's hot.
