As the domestic football season comes to a close, and Chelsea and Manchester United have battled it out to be crowned kings of Europe, you will be forgiven for thinking it is that time of the year to get your cricket jersey's out or catch up on Eastenders. However, wrong move, as this is definitely the officially certified 'Summer of Sport'.
Although England will not be participating in this summer's European Championships in Austria and Switzerland, which begins in June, there are still some great teams on show and some exceptional individuals to look out for.
With a lot of players from the English Premier League on show, such as Torres, C. Ronaldo, Fabregas and Xabi Alonso to name a few, I am sure England fans can adopt a team to cheer on for this summer's tournament.

If you are too much of a patriot and just cannot bring yourself to watching a competition without England, let alone cheer on another nation, then perhaps you should switch your attention to the Olympic Games in Beijing, which begins 8th August. With a lot of British talent on show, there is a strong feeling of optimism that Team GB will be collecting a large number of medals this time around.

If you would rather take the calmer approach to your summer of sport, then London is definitely the place to be as Wimbledon will be kicking off. Andy Murray is in fine form and with the likes of Rafael Nadal and Federer looking to win another major championship, and Venus Williams returning to defend her title, you can guarantee there will be some thrills, shocks, groans from Sharapova and definitely at least a 99 per cent chance of rain.
