On May 12 2008, The Thirst release their new track entitled; 'Sail Away' on Ronnie Woods' Wooden Records. The track speaks of gritty life in London over a jerky guitar line and jerky drums; 'Sail Away' is produced by Jim Abbiss (Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian, Adele) and is a track that depicts urban life and its harsh realities, similar to the band's upbringing in Brixton.
The track takes you on a journey through the streets, with lyrics that explore the goings on in these streets from tracks like; 'Life in the Concrete Jungle', 'Someone Stealing Your Suitcase', 'Kids with No Education' and 'Staffs and Pit Bulls'. The lyrics paint a grim but accurate image which they desire to one day 'Sail Away' from, but keeps its edginess and rawness through the nagging, guitar and the slightly bouncy drums.
On the flip side of the CD we are given a remix by micro house producer David E Sugar. Sugar starts from scratch with his remix, pitting the bass line against dub reverb with a wiry, spiralling guitar line. The original vocals are hooked around space age echoes and shimmering electronic sounds as he produces a effective and dark track which compliments the song's lyrics.
The original and the remix of 'Sail Away' simply offers two different ways to dance; the first being an upfront start-stop indie pop track and the second being the remix crossover dub -house style.
'Sail Away' is released ahead of the debut album 'On The Brink' and if this track is anything to go by, fans of The Thirst can expect a young, fresh and original album to spend hours listening too.
