As a fashion writer and fashionista myself, I have always thought that fashion stopped at what everyone could see you wearing, what was visible. Unfortunately, as I painfully found out, fashion can be a lot more hidden and deeper than that.
This article is about underwear for men so if you are the 'commando' type I suggest you browse through the Crumbs for Men website for more interesting and entertaining articles. Alas, for most of us underwear needs to be functional and comfortable whether they are designer labels, high street or simply home made. That is why I believe they are the unsung heroes of our closet!
The Perfect Underwear
There are no definite rules on how to find the perfect underwear, as I have come to realise over time. You simply have to try what is on the market to discover which one works best for you and boy there is a lot of different styles to choose from.
Today's briefs are not only available in white and made of cotton fabric as we would have worn in our childhood, now there are hipster briefs, boxer briefs, trunks, thongs, boxer shorts, made from cotton, lycra, nylon, polyester or silk, to name just a few from a very long list.
Things to Consider
Now moving on to the more technical aspect of undies; if you live in hot or warm climate cotton underwear will serve you best, whereas any Lycra combination will be well suited for colder countries; if you can handle the close fit that they provide.
Comfort is forever the first consideration when buying men's underwear; you should always make sure that they are not too tight at the jock strap or at the waistband, because that is a sure way to drive you mad.
Whether you are purchasing underwear, t-shirts, vests or even socks try going a size up and one of the thing that I tend to do is that I go for different underwear according to the situation that I am in such as work, weekend outing or when just chilling at home, usually it will be a matter of personal choice.
Keep Them Clean
This might sound like a basic rule but it is the one rule you mustn't forget as my Mum used to say to me: "always keep your pants clean because you never know where you will take them off!"
